Four (4) critically acclaimed albums later, Karsh Kale (pronounced Kursh Kah-lay) is widely regarded as a pioneer of global fusion and electronica. His music inspired and defined the worldwide club phenomenon known as “Asian Massive” or “Asian Underground” in the early part of the decade. Today Karsh’s music has travelled far past the underground club scene and has been featured on stages from Lincoln Center to the Burning Man Festival, and from the Barbican Center to the Hollywood Bowl.
With Cinema – Kale’s fifth and most ambitious album to date – Kale’s diverse musical talents as a tabla player/drummer, remixer, producer and multi-instrumentalist are all present. However it’s Kale’s recent forays into scoring films for India’s growing Bollywood film industry that provided the greatest influence to Kale’s usual palette of progressive electro-rock and Indian classical music. In the two years of writing the album on piano and guitar, Karsh challenged himself to write songs with a Western ear – further blurring the boundaries between rock, world and electronic music.
