PAN-AMERICAN LATINX ALTERNATIVE MUSIC GROUP LADAMA RETURNS TO U.S. FOR FALL TOUR
LADAMA SHATTERS GENRES AND GENDER STRUCTURES WITH DEBUT SELF-TITLED ALBUM OUT NOW ON SIX DEGREES RECORDS
(New York) – LADAMA returns to the U.S. for the second leg of their tour in support of their debut album, LADAMA. The new album has received outstanding critical accolades, including NPR Music who said, “LADAMA takes on traditional genres with confidence and vigor without being constrained by their conventions. The result is a vivid montage of music of the Americas with irresistible spirit and universal appeal.” And Billboard, called their video for “Confesión” “an acoustic blend of Afro Latin percussion and guitar under almost improvisatory vocals — explores what it means to be a woman today.” LADAMA’s debut album peaked at #1 on the iTunes and Amazon Latin album charts and continued to gain fan support with near sold out shows throughout the U.S. earlier this year. Adding to the new album’s success, the Toy Selectah remix of the lead single, “Porro Maracatu” will be featured in EA’s FIFA 2018 video game soundtrack out now and added to their popular playlist.
The new album, released on Six Degrees Records, LADAMA, is the culmination of three years of production across different countries, and weaves acoustic and electric instruments to produce an infectious, danceable sound rooted in Afro-Latinx styles from their countries of origin, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and the United States. The group consists of Lara Klaus (pandeiro, voice, drums), Daniela Serna (voice, tambor alegre), Mafer Bandola (bandola llanera, voice) and Sara Lucas (voice, guitar, hand percussion) in collaboration with New York-based bassist, Pat Swoboda.
LADAMA has graced stages and dazzled audiences all over the world with a mission to emphasize female and youth empowerment. They have been invited to the world’s most prestigious thought leader events including opening this years Skoll World Forum in the UK, a TED Talk at the TED conference in Vancouver, and an invitation to perform by the U.S. Embassy in Venezuela for a U.S. State Department sponsored Venezuelan tour.
This month they return to the U.S. fresh from the UK, where they were a highlight of the WOMAD UK festival. iNews raves, “For sheer good times, shows were comprehensively stolen by the all-female masters of rhythm that were LADAMA.” The U.S. tour will kick off at Globalquerque later this month.
LADAMA’s live performances create an experience that transcends borders and genres while weaving together Pan-American influences to create a sum greater than its parts. It is this year’s must see show! For tour dates please check here and below.
