MARY ANNE HOBBS CURATES THE ‘VOLCANO REFUGEE PARTY’ FOR HER APRIL 28th BBC RADIO 1 EXPERIMENTAL SHOW

NEXT TWO RADIO SHOWS WILL BE PRODUCED FROM LOS ANGELES

PLUS SECOND NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

“The undisputed first lady of bass” (XLR8R), Mary Anne Hobbs has turned an unwieldy situation of being stuck in the US, due to the Iceland volcano into a “Volcano Refugee Party.”  She will be producing and broadcasting live her next two radio shows from Los Angeles.  The April 28th edition is called “Volcano Refugee Party” and will feature 20 minute back to back sets from electronic music’s bleeding edge including Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Ras G, Tokimonsta, Teebs, and TAKE.  The May 5th show will also be produced and live from LA and is called the “City Of Angels Special” featuring Matthew David, The Gaslamp Killer, Samiyam, Daddy Kev, and Nosaj Thing.  You can check out all the details to the upcoming shows below.

Mary Anne Hobbs came to the US to DJ the acclaimed Coachella Festival and after being notified of her canceled flight due to the Iceland volcano, she decided to make the best of it by staying in Los Angles, what she considers her second home, to produce her next two radio shows and start her North American tour early.  Her last North American tour in the fall of ‘09 was in support of her third compilation, Wild Angels (Planet Mu), which received countless press accolades coast to coast from the New York Times to the Los Angeles Times. Since her last tour, Mary Anne Hobbs and her BBC1 Experimental radio show has gone on to win awards from DJ Magazine and the Dubstep Forum (http://www.dubstepforum.com), while Wild Angels was nominated for “best compilation” from Urb Magazine.

Mary Anne Hobbs’ tastemaker talents continue to shine on her radio show as she debuts exclusive material and breaks new artists to an international audience week after week.  There’s no wonder why she keeps getting asked back by the world-renowned Sonar Festival (Barcelona’s International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art) to curate her own stage, aptly titled “Mary Anne Hobbs Presents:”  For the June 2010 edition, which is her fourth year running, she will be featuring up and coming artists Roska (http://www.roska.co.uk) and Joy Orbinson (www.myspace.com/joyorbison), and will be inviting back the mighty Flying Lotus (Warp), who is hot on the heels of his highly talked/tweeted SXSW set and is about to release his new album Cosmogramma on May 4th featuring a song with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.  Speaking of Mr. York, Mary Anne was responsible for helping that collaboration come to fruition.  But you didn’t hear it from us first; Rolling Stone gave up the goods during their recent interview with Fly Lo here.

Before Mary Anne Hobbs was known for picking the finest bassweight music around, she cut her teeth doing more than any good multi-tasker could do during her start at Radio 1 in 1997… she has hosted shows from all the major award ceremonies: Q, NME, Brits, Kerrang, Mercury Music Prize… and made documentaries about artists as diverse as David Bowie, Slipknot and The Sex Pistols…

She championed comedy god Ricky Gervais in his pre-Office days… hosted a movie review show with Mark Kermode called Cling Film… founded and fronted the award-winning Radio 1 Rock Show for five years…

TV… there’s quite a lot, M.A. hosted a season of live coverage of the ‘World Superbike Championship’ for British Eurosport in 2005… she made a series about global biker culture in India, Russia, Japan, the US and Europe for BBC Choice,‘Mary Anne’s Bikes’… fronted 27 hours of live coverage at Glastonbury Festival for the BBC… and has guested on everything from BBC2’s ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ to ‘John Peel’s Record Box’ for Channel4….

Mary Anne can ride any motorcycle you care to park in front of her…

But let’s not diverge from the true essence of her upcoming tour, which will be to destroy and subdue dancefloors with her eclectic, yet engaging DJ sets as she comes with a box loaded with new music waiting to be heard.  Don’t miss this opportunity to catch her DJ set in a city near you.
