FESTIVAL OF COLORS, Red Baraat’s annual Holi celebration tour, debuted in 2012 at a sold out Le Poisson Rouge in New York City. It has since expanded to over a dozen cities in the United States. Each year, bandleader and dhol player, Sunny Jain curates a vibrant night of music and art highlighting the South Asian Diaspora in America and beyond through a diverse range of styles and mediums.

HOLI is a Hindu holiday marked by public gatherings of families, friends, and strangers rejoicing in song, dance, and the exchange of “colors.” The holiday signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, an opportunity to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair ruptured relationships. It is celebrated at the approach of vernal equinox on the Phalguna Purnima (Full Moon). The festival date varies every year, per the Hindu calendar, and typically comes in March in the Gregorian Calendar.

This year includes stops in in Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Washington DC, Boston, Seattle, Portland, Philadelphia, NYC and more. Supporting talent for 2018’s iteration includes Chicago-based Hindi jazz singer SUBHI, cutting edge Punjab live electronica act PUNJABTRONIX, DJ REKHA, NYC’s WOMEN’S RAGA MASSIVE, SF singer/songwriter BHI BHIMAN, soul crooner ZESHAN B, and New York composer and guitarist RAFIQ BHATIA.

Red Baraat is still hot on the heels of their 2017 critically-acclaimed album Bhangra Pirates (Rhyme & Reason Records), which received accolades from NPR Music, NY Times, SPIN, Paste Magazine and WNYC Soundcheck. The band has just wrapped up in the studio with producer Little Shalimar (Run the Jewels), so expect to hear fresh new songs at their performances.
